the current trend
Health care in the Philippines is never without a cost and it is consistently rated as an important political, economic, social and ethical concern among our national and local leadership. Philippines is currently facing a double burden of disease where chronic noncommunicable diseases have emerged as the major cause of mortality hence draining the budget from household up to the local and national level.
The steadily arising crisis in NCDs triggered the development of LIFESTYLE MEDICINE training courses and certification of medical practitioners and other health care professionals globally. The eminent condition demands more Physicians and Allied Professionals with appropriate competencies and skills to match the demand of the growing trends of lifestyle disease and the changing context of healthcare delivery. The solution doesn't only depend on Physician's skill. Public health specialists holding position in schools and universities, public offices, churches and even non government organizations will immensely contribute in promoting lifestyle change in their respective fields. More importantly, this will greatly need the participation of policy makers that will support the program in the community level which plays a huge role in strategic implementation.
The Philippine College of Lifestyle Medicine (PCLM) is the first and only national medical specialty society for health care professionals who utilize evidence-based lifestyle interventions at par with globally recognized standards as the primary therapeutic tool in the treatment and management of disease. The PCLM serves its members by advancing the field of lifestyle medicine, promoting excellence in clinical practice and advocating on behalf of medical and public policy issues related to the practice and promotion of lifestyle medicine.
