This has reference to recent reports of pharmaceutical companies giving privileges to medical professionals and using a multi-level marketing scheme to entice them to advertise and prescribe medical products.
Medical professionals are expected to uphold professional and ethical standards. The interest of the patient shall be paramount to any interest. Social pressures, financial gains and administrative exigencies shall not comprise the rights of the patient to quality healthcare service. The Department of Health strictly reminds all doctors, nurses, medical professionals, and DOH personnel in medical center, hospitals, and medical facilities regulated by the DOH that the acceptance of gifts, grants or any emoluments from Biopharmaceutical companies or members of the industry, in exchange of any act benefiting such company or member of the industry is unethical. |

RESOLVED further that since the inception of the PCLM I Inc., and now a fast-growing medical specialty, the PCLM have been receiving pecuniary benefit from Dr. Mechelle Palma’s resources, affiliations, expertise, and time to advance lifestyle medicine in medical education, primary care practice, community-based advocacy, and the healthcare integration. Through her collaborative efforts with the PCLM board members and standing committees, national and international alliances, and bonafide members, the dissenting movement of few PCLM concerned members will not impede the progress its achieving that will continually benefit all its members, and more importantly, the patients and communities it serves. |

lifestyle medicine intensivist competencies: 2023 expert consensus updateThe competencies for Lifestyle Medicine Intensivists are updated and recently published by the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine. The same international competencies, including the list of locally added competencies, are applied to the Lifestyle Medicine Fellowship Training and Certification that the Philippine College of Lifestyle Medicine will launch in collaboration with several training institutions, including the Philippine General Hospital, Adventist Medical Center, and Antique Medical Center.

LIFESTYLE MEDICINE CORE COMPETENCIES: 2022 UPDATEThe lifestyle medicine core competencies were developed by a committee of physicians from several medical specialties to provide guidance on the knowledge and skills needed for physicians to provide high quality lifestyle interventions that optimize chronic disease outcomes. These competencies were published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in 2010 and used as the foundation for the first lifestyle medicine course and for the lifestyle medicine board certification examination. In the ensuing years, interest in the field and application has expanded to a variety of health professionals. With evolution of the lifestyle medicine evidence-base, the competencies have been updated. This article sums up the changes in their organization and content. Regular updates are anticipated to align with the ongoing scientific studies and evolution of the field.

The Philippine College of Lifestyle Medicine (PCLM), the national organization of licensed and certified lifestyle medicine physicians, is an affiliate of the Lifestyle Medicine Global Alliance. Lifestyle Medicine Societies have a close tie to the Preventive Medicine community, which strongly connects to Public Health promotion that implements vaccination programs.
Whereas, the PCLM supports evidence-based medicine, informed consent, and patient rights. It is essential to establish every patient’s risk-benefit profile and respect their autonomy to choose, collaborating with their physician in handling treatment and vaccination decisions. |
